Obituary of Estelle Janet Campbell

ESTELLE JANET (CAROTHERS) CAMPBELL Estelle Janet (Carothers) Campbell, devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and well-known community volunteer, passed away at her residence in Poland, Ohio on April 13, 2007 surrounded by her entire family. Born in Forest Hills, PA, she was the daughter of Robert Carothers and Mary Blanche (McBride) Carothers. Her family relocated to Youngstown, Ohio following her graduation from Wilkinsburg High School in Pittsburgh where she also attended Seton Hill College. Following graduation, she became associated with Truscon Steel, the World War II Ration Board, and H&R Block. Further, she engaged in extensive modeling and was a noted model at Strouss-Hirshberg Department Stores in Youngstown, Ohio, where her bridal portrait was also featured in the bridal department. She was also on the Advisory Women's board of Glamour Magazine for several years. Her volunteerism spanned a number of local civic organizations including Ladies of Charity, where she founded a program for special needs children, and The Carmelite Monastery. A past President of the Diocesan Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, as well as President of St. Nicholas Infant Jesus of Prague Guild for five years, she was also a past President of Junior Seton in Youngstown, Ohio. A devout Roman Catholic, she was a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Family Catholic Church where she was a member for over 40 years. She and her mother were in charge of the care and maintenance of the Infant Jesus of Prague Shrine at St. Nicholas Church, Struthers, Ohio for over 50 years. Estelle loved reading, gardening, swimming, and traveling. She also loved politics, particularly having served in the 1960 Presidential Campaign of John F. Kennedy. She will always be remembered as a lady of class and etiquette. Her family was always her number one priority. She is survived by her loving daughters, Charleen C. Malone of Poland, Ohio and Susan Campbell Sparks of Canton, Ohio and her husband, William R. Sparks, together with her grandchildren, Megan L. Malone of Twinsburg, Ohio, Craig C. Malone of Poland, Ohio, Timothy W. Sparks of Cincinnati, Ohio and Kelsey L. Sparks of Canton, Ohio, Brian J. Malone (Lea Heidman) of Medina, Ohio and great-grandchildren, Carter Malone and Nicole and Alyssa Apostalakis and God-son, Dr. James R. Hill of Columbus, Ohio. Preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Campbell, sister, C. Robertta Carothers and son-in-law Joseph A. Malone. The family requests that donations be made in care of Charleen C. Malone for purposes of preserving and maintaining the Shrine which she established at St. Nicholas Church.
