Obituary of George D. Reitz

George David Reitz, 86, passed away at his daughter and son-in-law's home in New Bern, NC on January 27, 2007. Born in Clarksburg, WV in 1920, George had been a Cuyahoga Falls resident for 55 years before moving to New Bern, NC in 2005. He was a 1937 graduate of Ravenna High School and a 1949 graduate of Kent State University. George worked as a foreman for the B.F. Goodrich Tire & Rubber Co., retiring in 1982 with 42 years of service. George served his country as a member of the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was an avid golfer and worked part-time as a starter at The Kent State University Golf Course for over 10 years. George also volunteered his time for many years as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop #166 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Cuyahoga Falls. George was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Marie in 1994. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law David and Beverly Reitz of Chesterfield, MO and Douglas and Nancy Reitz of Stow; daughter and son-in-law Arlene and Robert Costanzo of New Bern, NC; sister Ruth Crowe; grandchildren Bryan, 16, and Matthew, 14, of Stow, OH and Jennifer, 22, and Michael Reitz, 18, of Chesterfield, MO, and Amy (Jeffrey) Hedley of Lancaster, OH and John Hobday of Columbus, OH; great-grandchildren Emily, 15, and Jacob Hedley, 11. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-9 pm at The McGowan-Reid & Santos Funeral Home (at 3rd st., one block north of Portage Trail in the Falls). Funeral services will be held Friday, at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
