Obituary of Josephin Opal Sommers

Josephine Opal Somers (Arnold), 87, died Jan. 19, 2007. Mrs. Somers was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Sept. 8, 1919, to Andrew Jackson and Edith Glen Arnold. She graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1937, where she was a softball standout. She married Paul E. Gove in 1937. She worked (in Ravenna) at Dr. Webb's office as a secretary, until 1962, when she drove her car to California to be near her children and grandchildren. She settled in Arcadia, Calif., where she worked as a medical assistant for more than 30 years. She was a bird lover and avid gardener. Mrs. Somers is survived by children Mary Jo and Paul Jr.; grandchildren Gregory Stawicki, Peter Stawicki, Jonene Baez (Tony), John Gove and Sara Gove, all of California; and sister, Marion Brode of Ravenna. Calling hours took place Thursday, Jan. 25 followed by a funeral service at McGowan-Reid & Santos Funeral Home, on Stow Avenue in Cuyahoga Falls. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Bill Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201.
