Obituary of John N. Codrea
John N. Codrea of Marco Island, Florida passed away at the age of 91 on June 20, 2012 after a long illness. Born on December 7, 1920 in Akron, Ohio, he graduated from Garfield High School, and the University of Akron where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees.
While pursuing his undergraduate degree, John began a forty year career at the B.F. Goodrich Company, starting as a factory worker and retiring as Vice President of the Engineered Systems Division. During World War II, he served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps and participated in the invasion of Guam. After the war, he served as the Commanding Officer of the Akron Marine Reserve company, and was honorably discharged from the Marine Reserves in 1957 with the rank of Captain.
John was an incredible husband and father, and his family was his greatest source of pride. He was a voracious reader with tremendous intellectual curiosity. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed playing and officiating baseball, basketball, football, table tennis and golf.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Aneta (nee Budea) Codrea, his brother George, and his sister Eugenia. He is survived by his loving and steadfast wife of 65 years Mary (nee Morrison), his son John E. Codrea (Judy), daughter Mary Elizabeth Codrea, son David N. Codrea (Maureen), son Robert W. Codrea (Sara), daughter Carolyn E. Sunday (Edmund), and grandsons David, John Leo, Nicholas, Eli, and Zachary.
A private family service was held.
