Obituary of Helen Veronica Makidon
Helen Veronica Pachipka Makidon passed away peacefully on January 9, 2007
surrounded by her family.
Helen was born in Clarence, Pa on March 1, 1924. She was raised in the
Clarence area and had been an Akron resident since 1944. In September 1945,
she married Ernest Makidon, who predeceased her in 1992 after 47 years of
marriage.
Helen will be remembered for the love she gave to family and friends, her
strong faith, her sense of humor, and her great cooking. Helen was co-owner,
with her sister Margie, of H&M Catering. Together with their family, they
provided beautiful weddings for many in the area. Helen's specialty was
baking .cakes, kolach, baklava and more.
Helen was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, St. John's Altar and
Rosary Society and Ladies' Guild, Jednota Branch 553, and the Firestone Park
Prime Timers.
Helen is survived by her daughters Deborah St. Hilaire of Port Clinton and
Regina (George) Kovac of Akron; her grandchildren Kate Jones (fiancée Nathan
Wilke) of St. John, Newfoundland, Rick Jones of Akron, Errol Kern of Long
Beach, CA, and Michael Hopkins III of Chicago; brother Andrew Pachipka, and
sisters-in-law Katherine Pachipka, Lillian Pachipka, and Joanne Edworthy;
and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her parents Emro and Mary Pachipka, siblings Mero,
John and Frank Pachipka, Susie Palinkas, Mary Harvey, Anna Duda, Stella
Watkins, Margaret Kuder, and Mildred Hunsicker.
The family gives a special thanks to Dr. Troy Bishop and Summa Hospice for
making Helen's final days peaceful.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 at the
Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home, 95 W. Waterloo Rd. Funeral Mass will be
held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1034 Brown St. at 11:00.
Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
