Obituary of Robert E. Stiner
Robert E. Stiner (Bob), 87, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, January 11th with loving family members by his side. Bob was born on May 24th, 1927 to Beatrice Taylor Stiner and Vernon E. Stiner in Coshocton, Ohio. Bob spent his early years in Dresden, helping his dad in the local bakery and attending Dresden Elementary School. During The Great Depression, he delivered bread for pennies a loaf.
Later, he attended Coshocton High School before joining the U.S. Navy where he served as a baker aboard the aircraft carrier, Franklin D. Roosevelt. While on leave, he met the love of his life, Cordelia Mary Marhofer. They were married on March 9th, 1947. Bob continued his work as a baker at Nickles Bakery in Navarre, where he moved from the dough room to driving a wholesale truck until promoted to Branch Manager in Akron. He and his wife started their family on Ohio Street in Navarre, and then moved to Green to continue raising their two daughters, Martha and Linda. Bob continued his work in food service as a co-owner and manager of a Pewter Mug restaurant in Cleveland.
In retirement, he held several part time jobs as a bagger at grocery stores, including IGA on Massillon Road. In his spare time he enjoyed car shows, bowling, reading the newspaper and history books, volunteering at Edwin Shaw's Challenge Golf Course, and being active in the VFW and American Legion. Bob could often be seen marching in parades as a member of the Color Guard. Other hobbies included golfing, taking care of his yard, and dancing with his wife at the Eagles Club. Bob was also a member of Greensburg United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 68 years, Cordelia, daughters Martha (Dan) Ward, and Linda Korud, grandchildren, Daniel Robert Ward (Bob, after his grandfather), David Shenosky, Alicia (Josh) Antol, and Michael Shenosky, and three great-grandsons, Oscar, Daniel, and Colton. His family will always remember his jovial smile and quick-witted one liners.
