Obituary of George Adam Meidlinger

George A. Meidlinger, 88, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014, peacefully at home. Born in Akron to Julia (nee Dragus) and Adam Meidlinger, George was a lifelong Akron resident. He served in the U.S. Navy (USS Chivo) during World War II. George worked as a local machinist, including at his own shop, Meidlinger Machine. He also was a sales manager for the Franklin Dales Co. and spent retirement with Acme and Stan Hywet. He was an elder and served in many capacities as a long-time member of Trinity United Church of Christ. George was an active supporter of Masonry and commander of Bethany Commandry. He was a member of the Hungarian American Club since 1941 where he served as President and a member of its Culture Club. Jean and George shared many good years with their many polka-loving friends there. He was a Quiz Kid in school and a boy scout and was a life member of Post 3383 V.F.W., Post 281 American Legion, and the WWII & Korean War Roundtable. George believed that one passed through this veil of tears but once and so life should be enjoyed, which he surely did. He also believed that angels were here on earth and that the foremost angel of all is his beloved wife of 64 years, Jean. George is survived by his daughter Linda (Joe) Malott of Cincinnati, son Richard (Terri) of Sterling, Virginia; grandchildren Jennifer & Megan Meidlinger, and Kenna and Cami Malott; sister-in-law Marian Blanco; brothers-in-law Bob Smiley (Myra) and Bill Smiley, (Jean). He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Joe and Vi; brothers-in-law Bill Blanco, Joe Smiley and in-laws Joe and Erma Smiley. "Uncle George" was a friend & storyteller to friends, family and many Karder cousins. He will be missed.
