Obituary of Andy Vargo

Andy Vargo after 82 years of a full life went to celebrate Father's Day with his Heavenly Father on June 16, 2012. Andy was born to humble means in Booth, WV. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the Battleship New Jersey. After settling in Akron, he served his family by working as a precision machinist who helped to build many projects which served this great country. Among his many accomplishments was having a hand in building a piece for every United States manned space project. He worked tirelessly to make a good home for his family and provide his two sons with opportunities that were unavailable to him. He taught his sons self-reliance and that they could do anything to which they set their minds. Jesus' servant heart was constantly evidenced in him as he helped his family, friends and neighbors in any way he could. "What can I do to help" was his usual first thought and he often did not wait for an answer to offer his service. It was his family's honor to serve him with the compassionate help of Summa's home hospice in his final time with us. Although he will be deeply missed, this Father's Day will be the most special of his life. He is survived by his wife of 59 years of marriage, Anna Mae Vargo; sons Andrew (Sushmita) Vargo, Dr. Richard (Carol) Vargo; granddaughters Michelle and Natasha Vargo; brother George (Carol) Vargo and sisters Ann 'Dolly' Vargo & Margaret Pfalzgraf. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4-6 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron, where a Parastas will take place at 5:30 pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church 755 S. Cleveland Ave. in Mogadore, where Andy will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Interment with full military honors will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to the Salvation Army who graciously served Andy as a child.
