Obituary of Olga Batschyk

Olga (Laschkowytch) Batschyk, 89, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Akron City Hospital Palliative Care. Olga was born February 18, 1923 to Mychajlo and Paraskewia (Tomko) Laschkowytch in Sopitnyk, Ukraine and had been a resident of the Cleveland area for over 50 years. She worked on a farm in Germany during WWII and she and her beloved late husband, Frank moved their family to Australia in 1950. In 1958 they emigrated to the United States where she raised her family. She loved to garden and take care of her family and home. She was a member of St. Andrew and St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Churches. Olga leaves her children Irene Washington, Orysia Carroll and Mary Ziegler; grandchildren Jon (wife Kristin) and Michael Washington, Victoria Zeigler and Paul (wife Tammy) and Gretchen (husband Michael Meros) Carroll; great grandchildren Alec, Aaron and Alaina Washington and Riley and Lily Carroll. In addition to her husband Frank, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law John Washington. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 12, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 5720 State Road, Parma, Ohio 44134. Divine Liturgy will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral with Fr. Claudio Melnicki officiating. Interment will be at Woodvale Cemetery 735 Engle Road in Middleburg Heights.
