John W. Grandetti
John Grandetti, 55, passed away peacefully on October 18, after a six-year battle with cancer.
Born December 20, 1958, Jack was a graduate of Lorain Admirald King High School, where he excelled in baseball and basketball. He attended Kent State University on a full basketball scholarship, where he played baseball as well. After he graduated with a degree in education, he played basketball professionally in Europe, before returning to teach and coach basketball at his alma mater in Lorain. He later became head coach of the girls basketball team at Rittman High School, and was currently an assistant basketball coach at Canton McKinley High School.
Jack was preceded in death by his mother Cynthia Cummings. he is survived by his beloved wife of 7 years Andrea; his step-children James (Lauren) O'Brien, Hannah O'Brien (Danny Gress), and Kristen O'Brien; son John Grandetti; half-siblings Harry (Kathy) Barnes, James Cummings, Michelle Barnes.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 5-8 pm, at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main. St. in Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Michael B. Smith on Thursday, 10:00 am, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family c/o the funeral home.
