Obituary of Granville Clyde Davenport

Granville Clyde Davenport entered into the Church Triumphant Sunday, October 5, 2014 after a 17 year battle with cancer. The Lord kept him on earth to preach the Gospel to many and lead a Christian life. Clyde belonged to The Community Church of Portage Lakes, F & AM, Scottish Rite, American Legion, VFW Lodge and Amateur Radio Relay League (WB8GLV). He played fiddle in jam sessions in Summit County, Randolph Community Center (Portage County) and, for a short time, with a Ravenna-based Christian group. He was Treasurer of the USS Windham Bay CVE-92 Association for the past 11 years. He was well known in the art community for his oil paintings, displaying his works at the Bath Church for the past several years during Epiphany and at many other churches during Lent. Clyde was also known as "Barber" at Summit Mall Barbers for over 30 years, and over 10 years at Fairlawn Plaza Barbers. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Donna; sons Zenon Ollis, Cameron Davenport, Byron Davenport and Anthony Walden; daughter Vera Griffith and grandson Alex Davenport. The family will receive friends at Community Church of Portage Lakes, 3260 Cormany Rd, Akron, Ohio 44319, on Friday, October 10th from 8 until 10 am and will be followed by a Christian Funeral Service 10 am at the church. Interment with full military honors will follow immediately at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. (Anthony, 330-724-1281, anthonyfh.com)
