Obituary of Sophia Christine Shantz

Sophia Christine Shantz, 89, fell asleep in the Lord Monday, September 22, 2014. She was born in Akron and was a member of Presentation of Our Lord Orthodox Church and Ladies Auxiliary. Chris was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was preceded in death by parents, George and Lena Balan; husband, Harold A. Shantz; brother, George Balan; and sister-in-law, Cherie Balan. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Laureen Shantz and their children, Randy Shantz and Melissa (Shantz) and her husband, Greg Emmons and their daughter, Georgia Claire Emmons; daughter, Kathy and John Bogdan and their children, Melanie Bogdan and Justine (Bogdan) and her husband, Cristian Zaharie; and daughter, Sally Shantz; and many other family members and dear friends. Funeral service will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. at Presentation of Our Lord Orthodox Church, 3365 Ridgewood Rd. Fairlawn, Ohio 44333 where Chris will lie in state one hour prior to service. Very Rev. Dr. Ian G. Pac-Urar officiating. Entombment at Rose Hill Burial Park. The family will receive friends Friday, 5 to 8 p.m. AT THE CHURCH where a Saracusta service will be held at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
