Obituary of Miodrag Cedic
Miodrag Cedic, 87, died peacefully in his sleep at home in Sedona, AZ. on May 28, 2012,
Memorial Day.
He was born May 5, 1925 in Kamenica, Yugoslavia and as a teenager was a courier for
three years in the WWII Serbian underground fighting both the Nazis and the Communists and
assisted in the rescue of downed American pilots. Wounded and then captured by the Nazis in
1944 he spent the end of the war doing hard labor in Mauthausen concentration camp. He was
liberated by U.S. General Patton's 11th Armored Division on his 20th birthday weighing 88 lbs. In
1951 he emigrated to the United States and married in Akron, Ohio. He and his wife moved
their family to Phoenix, AZ. in 1960 where they started a successful real estate development
company. In retirement in Sedona, AZ. he and his wife with their sons formed a foundation to
promote cultural understanding. Cedic gained international recognition in the late 1980s for
testifying against UN Secretary General Kurt Waldheim in the investigation of German war
crimes in WWII Yugoslavia. He was a voracious reader, especially the writings, letters and
diaries of the American Founding Fathers.
Predeceased by his wife Dorothy "Dara" Cedic; he is survived by sons, Sreten Cedic and Dorde
Cedic.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012 at St. Demetrius Serbian
Orthodox Church, 3106 Ridgewood Rd. Akron, OH. 44313 where he will lie in state and friends may
call one hour prior to service. Fr. George Mileusnich officiating. Interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
