Obituary of Bruce Lowell Akers
After a long battle with Hepatitis C contracted during service in Vietnam, Bruce L. Akers of Akron, OH, passed away very gently and peacefully, surrounded by loving friends and family Saturday, September 6, 2014.
Born in Akron, OH, Bruce is a retiree of Chrysler and the United States Army. He was a Vietnam veteran who worked tirelessly for our country, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. His last assignment was to A Company Maintenance Battalion 2nd Logistical Command, Private First Class, where he performed missions venturing into Vietnam when called upon. Bruce also saved many lives as a universal blood donor, often being one of the first to be called upon in emergency situations for his fellow servicemen.
More than this, Bruce was a cherished son, brother, father, grandfather, and beloved friend to all who knew him. He touched all of our lives with his great smile, sense of humor, and easy-going way. His kindness and generosity will forever bless the rest of our lives, as he seemed to always be giving his time and help to any who needed it. A teacher at heart, he was an incredble father and mentor to his beloved children, family, and friends. He will be greatly celebrated in our hearts, living on through our actions and thoughts. Please join us in celebrating this wonderfuzl man's life. His love will be with us forever...
