Obituary of William O. Ashley
William O. Ashley, Jr., 87, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2012.
He was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and was an Akron area resident for most of his life. He retired from B.F. Goodrich Tire and Rubber Company in 1986 after 40 years of service and was a veteran of the United States Armed Forces serving during World War II. Mr. Ashley was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and Firestone V.F.W. Post 3383. He enjoyed retirement life as a "Snow Bird" in Nokomis, Florida. His family was his love. He was the center of his family and will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by parents, William O., Sr. and Catherine (McGuire) Ashley; grandchildren, Cecily and Trevor Sheridan; brother, Robert Ashley; and son-in-law, Jim Burnham. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth (Yost) Ashley; son, William (Tammy) Ashley; daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Langenek, Diane Burnham and Patricia (Frank) Kuznarsky; sister, Dorothy Dodge; grandchildren, Amanda (Anthony) Collins, Teri Ashley, Chelsea and Scott Kuznarsky, Chris (John) Horrell, Tom (Sue), Tim (Stacey) and Todd (Jackie) Langenek; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service prayers will begin Wednesday, 9:15 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St., Akron, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Rd.
