Obituary of Mary Rita Simons

Mary Simons, 56, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 6, after a courageous five year battle with kidney cancer. Born in Whitestone, N.Y. on January 31, 1957, Mary grew up first in Whitestone and then Pleasant Valley, N.Y. She lived in Poland, Ohio for over 20 years before moving to Cuyahoga Falls in February. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Mary was always a positive person and her strength and optimism were an inspiration to all who knew her. Throughout her life, Mary accomplished many things, but was particularly proud of reviving the swim team at Poland-Seminary High School, as well as her participation in a clinical trial for a cancer drug that that went on to help many people. Preceded in death by her mother, Doris; and her brother-in-law, Mike Wetzel; Mary is survived by her husband, Bob of Cuyahoga Falls; father, Herbert (Mary); daughters, Jessica (Marcus) Tullio of Hudson and Allyson Simons of Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Isla and Dominic; siblings, Julie (John) Purdy, Herb, Jim, Charles (Sandy), Thomas (Cherie) Pelton, Ella Gufler, Laura Wetzel, Teresa (Steve) Hughes, and Dennis (Gretchen), Bob (Debbie), and Dan Pelton; brothers-in-law, Jack (Peg), Tom (Toni), and Jim Simons; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Visitation

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. James Singler on Thursday at 11 a.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1905 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls, where the family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery in Hudson.
