Obituary of Cary Douglas Caesar

C. Douglas Caesar, 69, passed away on April 20, 2013 after a nine year battle with a glioblastoma (brain tumor). Born in Akron on October 13, 1943 to the late William and Virginia Caesar, Doug was a 1961 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School. In 1965, he graduated from the Cinncinati Conservatory of Music and went on to teach music to school children in Bellaire, Michigan. He was drafted to the Army and served from 1967 to 1970. In 1980, he graduated from The University of Akron School of Law, and retired from the Ohio Industrial Commission where he worked as a District Hearing Officer. Doug was a past president of the Akron Audubon Society. He volunteered at the MetroPark, Serving Summit County and was a member of the Metropark's photo club. He loved to share his knowledge and loved to teach. Doug was a talented nature photographer leaving a legacy of butterfly pictures. Another love was fostering rescue dogs and placing them with forever homes through American Brittany Rescue, adopting two Brittanys for his own. He was a man of many interests. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Mary (Fogle) of Cuyahoga Falls; sons, Paul (Kathleen) and Matthew of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, Sarah, Katie, Chelsea, Anthony Jeromy, Alexis and Jennifer. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Donald Zentz; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Judy Fogle; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his cousins in Canada who were like a second family to him.

Visitation

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4, at 11 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron, 3300 Morewood Rd., Akron, Ohio 44333. Please stay for lunch after the service. A committal of ashes with full military honors will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman on Monday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network, P.O. Box 3258, Pittsburgh, PA 15230-3258 (nbran.org); or to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron.
