Obituary of Vidosava Drobac

Vidosava-Vida Drobac, 86, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 peacefully at her home. Vidosava was born November 23, 1926 to Vid and Marta Jelicic in Drvar, Bosnia as the third of four children. She finished a trade school, but her further education was interrupted with the Second World War which broke out in former Yugoslavia in 1942. At age 18 she, as many other civilians, was forced out of her home and her city by advancing communist forces and she spent the next four years in constant retreat by foot over mountains and valleys of Bosnia, Lika, Dalmatian, and Slovenia until reaching safety in Italy. There (1946) she met her husband, Nikola 1947 and they formed a family (1948) with the birth of daughter Snezana. In 1951 the young family obtained permission to permanently settle in the United States. After settling in Akron, Ohio she worked for a few years until becoming able to stay home and dedicate her life to her husband and daughter. She also was a member of the St. Demetrius Serbian Orthodox church and was a dedicated member of Circle of Serbian Sisters. Since the early seventies, she had more than enough brutal hardships fighting severe allergies and going through nine life threatening major surgeries, three of them malignant tumors at different spots. Her prayers and tremendous faith in God gave her the strength to beat all these odds until now. She was very faithful and loving wife of Deacon Nikola Drobac for over 60 years (passed away 2010); dear sister of Radmila Milanov (Canada), Miladinka Zoric and Milorad Jelicic (both deceased); sister-in-law to late Milan-Mico and Audrey Drobac with the familiy (England); sister-in-law to Ksenija Jelicic (Serbia) first cousin of Mima Radevic and her daughter Nena (Germany), second cousin to Ruza (Dusan) Savic; loving mother of Snezana (Ivan) Mirkovic; grandmother of Svetlana and Biljana; great- grandmother of Bianca, Ivana, Max and Sinisa and great great-grandmother of Dominic. Also, an aunt to Nada (Robert-Bob) Smith with their children Chris and Mike and an aunt to Vera (Jovan-Jole) Vujadinovic, kuma to Cucus and Budimir families and good friend to anybody who accepted her friendship. May God give her eternal peace and tranquility.
