Obituary of Marilyn LaViers

Marilyn LaViers, 84, passed away on January 21, at the Briarwood Health Care Community of Stow. Born in Akron on November 5, 1928 to the late George and Edna Groetz, Marilyn had been a proud lifelong resident of Firestone Park. She was a graduate of Garfield High School and The University of Akron. Marilyn married her husband Lawrence J. in 1949. She worked for 15 years for the Akron Public School District as a substitute teacher. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Marilyn was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved to cook and garden and take care of her three dogs: Riley, Fancy and Patric. In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence. She is survived by her children, Terry LaViers and Amy (Rick) Casteel, all of Akron; grandchildren, Megan (Tou) Xiong and Erik Miller, as well as great-granddaughter, Mai Xiong. The family would like to extend a special thanks to both the Briarwood and the Hospice of Western Reserve for the compassionate care given to Marilyn and her family.

Visitation

A Remembrance Service will take place on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron, where the family will receive friends starting at 5 p.m. and lasting until the time of the service. A private interment will take place at a later date.
