Obituary of Emil Guzy
Emil Guzy, 83, died October 18, 2012 at his home in Akron.
He was born January 6, 1929 and was a life long Akronite. Emil graduated from North High School in 1948 where he was co-captain of the football team. He then joined the Navy where he served as an aviation electrician on the aircraft carrier Valley Forge during the Korean War. On returning to Akron, he was employed by Ohio Bell as a telephone lineman and retired from AT&T 35 years later as an engineer.
Emil was devoted to his church, St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Mogadore, and to the music of the church. He was an assistant director for the St. Nicholas choir, a member of the Northeast Ohio Russian Male Chorus and the Serbian Men's Choir "Kosovo". He also was custodian and groundskeeper for St. Nicholas as well as groundskeeper for the church's cemetery. Emil was a member of the Federated Russian Orthodox Club (F.R.O.C) at both the local and district levels where he served as Lt. Governor and chaired the club's United Fund campaign. He also had been a member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years Olga (Kostelny); sister-in-law, Pat Guzy; and many cousins; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephan and Rose (Lezak); brother, Theodore; and sisters, Roselee Chasar and Martha Cantwell.
