Obituary of Bessie A. Mayer

Bessie A. Mayer, 93, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on April 9. Born in Cuyahoga Falls on February 23, 1919 to the late Frank and Josephine DeFago, Bessie had been a lifetime Cuyahoga Falls resident. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Bessie was also a member of the Falls Cancer Club. In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, John; grandson, Jack Denny; brothers, Sam, John, Frank, and Carl DeFago; and sisters, May Schwagler, Rose Santos, and Jennie Duncan. She is survived by her children, Marlene Mayer of California, Judith (Michael) Pallotta of Stow, and John (Candyce) Mayer of California; grandchildren, Charles (Cherese) Denny, Brad Denny, Vanessa (Thomas) Vatalaro, Michele (Jerry) Berg, Michael (Rebecca) Pallotta, Jr., Christine (Dan) Whisman, Tarra (Van) Huynh, and Jonathan (Brittany) Mayer, as well as 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ann DeFago; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home McGOWAN-REID & SANTOS CHAPEL (at 3rd St., one block north of Portage Trail in the Falls). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cuyahoga Falls. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice, 3515 Massillon Rd., Ste. 220, Uniontown, OH 44685 or St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1761 2nd St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221.
