Obituary of James Kyriakedes

James (Taki) Kyriakedes, 91, passed away after a long and fruitful life. He was the husband of Felita; father of Nina (Saki) Eliopoulos, Greg Kyriakedes (John Ferguson), and Christ (Diane) Kyriakedes; Popi to grandchildren, Evangelia "Julie" (Tim) Tsirambidis, Tim (Danielle) Eliopoulos, James, Sarah, and Alexis Kyriakedes; great-Papou to five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law to Irma Lerakis; uncle, Godfather, and great-uncle to many. An only child to Asia Minor refugees, James and his mother survived the Smyrna Holocaust of 1922, and found their way to Athens, where he was raised and served as Captain in the Greek Army during Greece's Civil War 1946-1949. In 1949, he married his childhood sweetheart, Evangelia (Julia). James immigrated to Akron, Ohio in 1951 with his young family and his humble beginnings. James earned a Business Degree at The University of Akron and worked at Ford Motor Co. Widowed in early retirement, James traveled the world, married Felita Oberes, and together, they enjoyed many years. Over the past year, James was often found playing cards with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Then Jesus said, "Come to me, you who are weary..., and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28. Funeral service will be held Saturday, 12 p.m. (noon) at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St., Rev. Fr. Jerry Hall officiating. Entombment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday, 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where a Trisagion service will held at 6 p.m. Donations may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St., Akron, Ohio 44304.
