Obituary of Gary M. Knight

Gary M. Knight, 70, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012. He was born in Akron and spent summers in Oxford, Mississippi with his family after his mother passed away in 1952. He was a college graduate from the University of Sanitoba, Mississippi and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Knight was a Summit County Sheriff's Deputy for the Akron Board of Education and had recently retired from Ohio Edison of Fairlawn after 41 years of service. He was a Boy Scout Troop Leader for Troop 9 from the First United Methodist Church of Akron and he enjoyed old western movies and comedies. After retirement he enjoyed weekend getaways. Special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Akron City Hospital for their excellent care. He was preceded in death by parents, Erral and Helen (Smith) Knight. He is survived by wife, Linda; son, Aaron (Denise); daughters, Kris (John) Steiner and Paula (Rick) Hernandez; and grandchildren, Kalan Steiner, Andrew and Jared Knight and Matthew and Christopher Hernandez. Calling hours Monday, 3 to 7 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home McGowan-Reid & Santos Chapel, 247 Stow Ave. (one block North of Portage Trail at 3rd St.) in Cuyahoga Falls where the Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Pastor Phil Engle officiating.
