Obituary of Andrew Halas
Andrew (Jim) Halas, 78, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014 while doing what he loved to do, fishing.
Jim was born June 10, 1936 to Andrew and Mary (Vargo) Halas in Akron and had been an Akron resident his entire life. He had been employed by SD Meyers for over 20 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church.
Jim was an eagle spotter for Metro Parks and a member of the Portage Lakes Purple Martin Association.
Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Paula (Hrubik); children Denese (Greg) Turlik and Derek (Sue) Halas; grandchildren Mathew, Alissa (Gary) Ward, Stephanie (Jeff) Jordan and Kristina; great grandson, and love of his life, Carson Ward; siblings Pete (Shari), Pat (Chuck), Kathleen (James), Joe (Annie), Carl (Cindy), Susie (Roger), Barb and Tom; sister-in-law Linda (Ron Parenti) Horvath and was preceded in death by his siblings John, Alex and Julia.
Jim enjoyed his many trips to Florida with cousins Sonny and Karri Guenther.
While your body now rests and you are free from pain, your spirit begins a new journey. May you find peace, everlasting love, a good fishing and hunting place and happiness for all eternity while you root for your beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. Until we meet again.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 3 to 5 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron.
