Obituary of Raymond D. Spreng
Raymond D. Spreng, 87, passed away Monday, October 24, 2011 after an extended illness.
He was born September 18, 1924, the son of Michael and Lillian (Golz) Spreng. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian M. (Germano) Spreng and brother, William Spreng.
Ray was a lifelong resident of the Kenmore area and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Ray proudly served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, on the newly christened battleship New Jersey. He joined the Akron Fire Dept. where he served for 25 years and retired in 1977 as a lieutenant.
He is survived by sister-in-law, Coletta Spreng of California, many nieces and nephews and special cousins, Grace and Willis Babak, and Mary Ellen Mueller.
Special thanks to the staff, nurses, and caretakers of Pleasant Point Assisted Living and Pleasant View Nursing Home for their wonderful and loving care.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, 12:30 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St., and 1 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2101 17th St. SW, Akron, OH 44314. The family will receive friends TODAY, 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where brother firefighters will perform the Last Alarm Service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church or the Interval Brotherhood Home, 3445 S. Main St., Akron, OH 44319.
