Obituary of Eunice Singer

GREEN - Eunice Singer, 88, passed away Monday, May 7, 2012 at Akron City Hospital after a brief illness complicated by forty years of lung disease. She joins her beloved husband Robert and treasured son Donald to share in a heavenly celebration of her 66th wedding anniversary. Eunice was born January 24, 1924 to Ott and Ida (Weaver) Vaughn in Akron and had been a Green resident for many years. A graduate of Garfield High School, Eunice attended The University of Akron. She was an executive secretary at B.F.Goodrich. In support of World War II Eunice did modeling for various Goodrich products. Eunice married Robert in 1946 and became a wife and mother. She loved to bake and prided herself in hosting many family dinners. Bob loved the smell of fresh made doughnuts which Eunice spoiled him with frequently! Her jams, jellies, cakes and pies were always the envy of their friends. Eunice, however, enjoyed a good piece of chocolate more than any of her baked goods. Travel was always an important part of Eunice's married life. When the children were younger summer trips included touring all corners of the United States. From Cape Cod to Los Angeles, Glacier Montana to Key West, Bob and Eunice took seriously showing their children all the beauties of our country. Fishing trips to Canada were a yearly adventure as well that Eunice tolerated just to see Bob's face when he returned to the cabin with a really 'big one'. When the children were grown the two of them went on several cruises, spent time in Myrtle Beach and bought a winter home in Stuart, Florida. Eunice particularly enjoyed the summer of 1999 when they traveled to England and searched out the birthplace of her mother! In the early 1970's Eunice was employed by the City of Green as a secretary to both the trustees and zoning board. She continued those positions while also taking on Zoning Inspector retiring in 1986. Eunice held the township trustees in high regard feeling they were truly dedicated men in a thankless job. Retirement gave Eunice time to pursue her love of crochet and knitting, needlepoint and beading. She completed many items for various charities to sell at bazaars and raffles. Eunice also liked a good game of canasta and enjoyed her monthly card club for fifty years. She was a founding member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church volunteering in many capacities. Close friendships evolved during those times. Eunice was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert in 2010, her son Donald on April 29, 2012, sister Virginia Clements and brother Charles Vaughn; and is survived by her children Janet (Denny) Loudermilk of Green, Jim (Kathy) Singer of Cincinnati and Jean (Bob) Spangler of Barberton; daughter -in-law Nicolette Singer; sister Elsie Roberts; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 11:00 Am at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Road, Uniontown, Ohio 44685. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 Am until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Queen of Heaven or Akron Children's Hospital Foundation, ATTN: Foundation, One Perkins Square, Akron, OH 44308-1062.
