Obituary of Edward Lawrence Rowland
Edward Lawrence Rowland, age 93, passed away on Sunday, September 26 at St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis, Ind.
He had been a resident at Marquette Manor beginning in July, 2002. Ed was born in Rochester, N.Y. on April 28, 1917. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II in the Army Medical Corp. He married the late Mildred Marie Nordengren and worked as an engineer at Goodyear Aero Space in Akron, Ohio from 1950 until he retired in 1987. In 1960, he graduated from Akron University with a BS degree in Industrial Management and, in 1963 he obtained an MA degree in Business Administration. He was an active member of St. Joseph Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio where he served as an usher, a Eucharistic Minister and as a counter: a service he rendered for fifty years.
Edward Rowland is survived by his two sons, Edward John Rowland and Rev. William Frederick Rowland, SM, and his grandchildren, Matthew Rowland of Desoto, Texas, Mary Schnueriger of Zurich, Switzerland, Nathaniel Rowland of Clive, Iowa, the Reverend Mr. Tony Rowland of Indiana; and 17 natural and stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Ethel Mckague; his father, Edward Ferrell Rowland; his brother, Alan Rowland; and his sister, Marie Grimm.
Visitation and a wake service will be celebrated for family and friends at the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, in Indianapolis on September 28, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Fr. William F. Rowland, SM will officiate. The family will receive friends at the McGowan-Reid Funeral Home in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on Wednesday, September 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on Thursday, September 30 at 10 a.m. Following the funeral Mass. Burial will take place at the Oakwood Cemetery in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
