Obituary of Phillip DeLuca
Phillip DeLuca
Phillip DeLuca 93, passed away on June 7, 2014.
Phillip was born in Magnolia Ohio on March 28, 1921 as one of eight children to Luciano and Rose DeLuca. A life long resident of Akron, Phil retired from the East Ohio Gas Company in 1983. He served in the US Air Force during World War II where he was awarded the Soldier's Medal.
In 1944, he met and married an angel, Elizabeth Roberts, who was by his side for over 67 years. Phil was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood, gardening and traveling. His passion was grouse hunting with the bird dogs he raised, especially Jack. He was called the "Fox" by his hunting and fishing buddies, and was the ringleader for all escapades, good and bad. His stories around the campfire were legendary and will be missed by many. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and spending his winters in Florida with Libby. He was one of a kind, lived his life "his" way and will always be remembered as a "character" to everyone that knew him.
Preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth, four brothers and one sister, he is survived by his daughter Judy (Tom) Honmeyr of Arizona, James (Julie) DeLuca of Green and two brothers John and Luciano (Renata). He is also survived by his grandchildren Danny (Stacy) DeLuca, Abigail DeLuca, Jake DeLuca, great-grandchildren Daniel and Kylie DeLuca, three loving step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to pay special thanks to his brother Junior (Luciano) who was not only his hunting and fishing buddy, but a loving brother that was always there for him.
The family would also like to thank the staff at St. Luke's in Portage Lakes for all of the wonderful care he received and the Hospice of Fairlawn for the comfort and compassion that they provided him.
The family will receive friends and family from 5-7 PM on Thursday, June 12 at the Anthony Funeral Homes, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. A memorial service will immediately follow at 7 PM. (Anthony, Akron, 330-724-1281, anthonyfh.com)
