Obituary of Richard V. West

Richard Verner West passed away June 1, 2014. He was born on November 8, 1938 in Columbus Ohio to Sarah and Harrison T. West. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother James. A graduate of the Ohio State University College of Dentistry, Dr. West practiced dentistry in Akron and Fairlawn for 36 years. After retiring from his practice, Dr. West became a clinical instructor in the dental hygiene department at Stark State College and a volunteer at Akron General Medical Center. Always ready with a joke or two to share, he thoroughly enjoyed the relationships and camaraderie he had with people in all areas of his life. Dr. West was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Mogadore, Ohio where he served as church council president, choir member, and chairman of the annual reverse raffle for more than 25 years. He also enjoyed serving the church as a member of the Diocesan and Metropolitan Councils of the Orthodox Church in America. He is survived by wife of 53 years, Maryann and children: Susan (Nikola) Resanovic, Stephanie (David) Reimund, and Thomas (Yulia) West: Grandcildren including Michael, Daniel, and Emilia Resanovic; Alexander, Nicholas, Daria, and Anysia Reimund; Dmitrii and Katerina West; sisters and brother-in law Anne Sekerak, Helen and Matt Pacak, Dolly Krause, Ann Sekerak, and Judy Horak, and many nieces and nephews. The family gratefully acknowledges the excellent TLC given by the nursing staff at CICU Akron General Medical Center including Jackie, Jessica, Sarah, Patrick, and Ruth. Family and friends may be received at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church at 755 S. Cleveland Ave. Mogadore, Ohio. Calling hours Thursday, June 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. with the Parastas at 7:30 p.m. and Friday 9:30-10:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church.
