Obituary of Irene Volchko

Irene Volchko, 93, peacefully passed away March 22, 2014, surrounded by loving nieces and nephews. Born October 25, 1920 to the late Anna (Kazimer) and Michael William Volchko in Akron, Irene and her nine brothers and sisters raised each other following the death of their mother in 1932 and father in 1936. Irene worked at BF Goodrich for 40 years before retiring in 1982. In her retirement, Irene and her sister Anna cooked for 12 years for the priests residing at Annunciation Catholic Church, where she was a lifetime member. Irene also enjoyed dogs, bowling, spoiling her nieces and nephews, fine chocolates and a good Scotch. Preceded in death by brothers Ted (Ann) Volchko, Emil (Mildred) Volchko, Andy (Mary) Volchko, Paul Volchko and Ed Volchko, brothers-in-law John Popiel and James E Davies Sr, Irene is survived by sisters Paulyne Popiel, Cuyahoga Falls, Helen V Davies, Wadsworth, Anna Volchko, Akron, brother Del (Jan) Volchko, Huntsville AL, sisters-in-law Ruth Volchko, Akron and Juanita Volchko, Stow. Irene is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews for whom she served as a substitute grandmother. The family will receive friends one hour prior at Visitation of Mary (Annunciation) Catholic Church 88 Kent St, Akron OH 44305 where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Paul Rosing on Tuesday March 25, 2014 at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Fund for Priestly Formation, Diocese of Cleveland, Cathedral Square Plaza, 1404 E Ninth St, Cleveland, OH 44114 or to the Hoban Fund, 1 Holy Cross Blvd, Akron, OH 44306.

The family will receive friends one hour prior at Visitation of Mary (Annunciation) Catholic Church 88 Kent St, Akron OH 44305 where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Paul Rosing on Tuesday March 25, 2014 at 12:00 pm.
