Obituary of Richard J. Wooley

Richard (Dick) J. Wooley, born January 22, 1930 passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014 after a lengthy illness to be reunited with all his loved ones who preceded him. Born to Edward and Dorothy (Rousch) Wooley in Akron he married Marie Genda on May 21, 1955. The two set about raising a family and contributing to their community. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife Marie, Dick was preceded in death by his step mother Dorthea (Saunders) Wooley, in-laws Daniel and Frances (Zotlar) Genda, siblings Mary (Wooley) Thorn, Thomas Saunders and Evelyn Saunders; great granddaughter Julia Marie Smith; niece Kara Petri; brothers and sisters-in-law Paul (Rose Mary)Genda, William (Irene) Genda, Thomas Genda, Michael Filipovic, Teresa (Albert) Konek, Andrew Duhon, Betty Genda and James Genda; and his cousin Charles (Irene) Grant. He leaves to mourn his passing children Charles Wooley, Ellen Wooley, Lisa (John) Fiala, Richard (Jill (Jenco)) Wooley and Robert Wooley; grandchildren Angela Smith, Jack (Nicole) Fiala, Landry, Lilly and Meredith Wooley and Katrina White; great grandchildren Matthew Smith and Renesmee Fiala; brother-in-law George Thorn sisters-in-law Patricia Saunders, Mildred Duhon and Donna Genda with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dick was a life resident of Akron beginning his career at the Akron Dime Bank seeing the many changes until he retired in 1997 from National City Bank as Vice President of Commercial Lending after 37 years. He was very involved in his community contributing time and energy to numerous organizations. He sat on the Akron Planning Commission and the Akron Community Drug Board where he served twice as its president. He was a member and past president of the Akron Home Builders Association and the Firestone Park Citizens Council. He loved politics participating in campaigns financially and volunteering. He was a faithful member of St. Paul Catholic Church and a veteran of the US Army. Dick was a fun loving, quiet man that was an example of what a husband, father, uncle and friend should be. He enjoyed spending time with his family, helping others, beach vacations, gambling, dancing, playing golf and playing cards, especially euchre. We are sad to lose our father and friend but we are content in knowing that he is at peace and again able to enjoy the things that brought him happiness. We are grateful to the staff of Anna's Home Health Care and VNS Hospice Services for the loving care they provided our father. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron 44301. Funeral services will begin Thursday at 10:00 am at the funeral home and will be continue with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Paul Catholic Church, 1580 Brown St. Akron, Ohio 44301. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Highsight (providing high school completion and college assistance to the under privileged), 315 W.
