Obituary of William Raymond Smith

William R. Smith at the age of 93 passed away April 2, 2012. A lifetime resident of Barberton and Kenmore, Bill retired from Seiberling Tire and Rubber Company. A veteran of World War II US Army Air Corps, Bill was a life member of Firestone VFW Post 3383. He served on the Honors Burial Squad, and was a member of the Ritual Team that won the National Ritual Title in 1988. He was also a member of the American Legion 449. Bill was an avid Bowler, bowling on many leagues. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. (Spidle) Smith in 2008. They had been married for 67 years at that time. He is survived by sons, Jim (Karen), Richard, Bob (Kathy), Tim, and Don Smith (and friend Cindy Skye); grandchildren, Jim (Sue), Ryan (Shannon), Karrie, Aaron (Leah), Courtney and Eric Smith, Ann Marie Smith-Ginn and Lisa (Bill )Adair; and great-grandchildren, Kiefer, Andy, Nichole, Walker, Olivia and Keira Smith, Gabrielle and Alexander Ginn and Billy and Danny Adair. Among other relatives, Bill will be missed by his close niece, Martha Jarvis. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday April 12, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 Sixth St. NW, Barberton, OH. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Rittman, OH. Military Honors provided by Firestone VFW Post 3383 at 1 pm. Family will receive friends Thursday, April 12 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. Funeral Service prayers will begin at 10:15 am.
