Obituary of Edward 'Slug' Blackert

Edward F. 'Slug' Blackert, 71, passed away surrounded by his loving family,on November 29, at the Hospice Care Center in Copley. Born in Barberton, on February 18, 1942 to Edward & Pauline Blackert, Slug had been an area resident for most of his life. He was a 1960 graduate of Barberton High School. Slug was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kenmore. Preceded in death by his father Edward and his infant sons Kenneth & Mark, Slug is survived by his beloved wife of 24 and 16 years, Ann; dear mother Pauline of NC; his children Laurie (William) Harris of Orville, Vince (Michelle) Blackert of Coventry Twp., Janice (Dwayne) Tepus of Green, Jennie (Blackert) McKown of Norton, & Amy (James) Brumfield of Norton; 14 grandchildren & 2 great-grandchildren; siblings James (Paula) Blackert of FL, John (Cathy) Blackert of Norton, Judy (Pete) Ellers of ID, Dan Blackert of NC, Sue (Dan) Wargo of Barberton, & Raymond (Denise) Blackert of NC. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of VNS Hospice for the compassionate care given to Slug. A special thanks also goes out to Slug's family, extended family, and friends for the round the clock care given to Dad. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 5-8 pm, at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main in Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Michael B. Smith on Wednesday, at 10:30 am, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kenmore. PROCESSION WILL FORM AT THE CHURCH. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 2101 17th St SW Akron, OH 44314.
