Obituary of Olga Stashkiw

Olga (Greskovics) Stashkiw, 95, passed on to her eternal reward on November 24, 2013. She died peacefully at Hospice of Dayton, surrounded by loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband William Stashkiw. Also preceding her in death were her parents, John and Anna (Gaydos) Greskovics, sisters Anne, Mary, Sue, Helen, Margaret, Verna, Sylvia and Sr. Mario Carmel Ann, O.Carm (Elizabeth), and brothers Michael, John and Stephen. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was born on August 25, 1918 in Clymer, Pennsylvania and moved to Akron, Ohio as a small child and married William Stashkiw in 1940. She was a member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church for many years. She was a beautiful woman who modelled for the O'Neil s department store. She was a very thrifty and honest bookkeeper who worked personally for Harvey Firestone Jr. She was an incredible cook and baker often bestowing her largess among her hungry family, friends, and coworkers at Firestone. Her generosity, advice and sometimes wittily scathing admonitions were relished by her sisters, nieces and nephews. Her sense of humor was slyly hilarious and she could regale her audiences for hours. Having come from a large, gregarious family, she could hold her own in a crowd and still be "every other inch a Lady". We will miss her wisdom, her shrewd advice and her tender heart, for in that she was truly a Great Lady. Recently, she had moved to Dayton, Ohio to be with her niece. Funeral service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in Akron. Fr. Vsevolod Shevchuk officiating. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. Donations may be made to St. Edwards Home in Fairlawn. (Anthony, Akron, 330-724-1281, www.anthonyfh.com)
