Obituary of MaryAnn Vukelich Christian
MaryAnn Vukelich Christian, born on October 4, 1943 in Akron, Ohio passed away on November 6, 2013. MaryAnn was married to the inseparable love of her life, F. Glenn Christian for 48 years; he was also her long-term caregiver. MaryAnn is a former teacher, dedicated mother, accomplished golfer, and world traveler. She graduated from East High School in Akron in 1961 and attended Oakland University and graduated in 1976. She lived all over the globe, including Indonesia, Liberia, Newport Center, Vermont, and most recently Millsboro, Delaware.
She loved making people laugh, watching sports, and sewing. She was the most incredible, loving, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Her strength and joy of life were contagious. She was an inspiration to countless others battling cancer throughout her 15 year battle with the disease.
She will be sadly missed by her sons, Geoffrey (Brian) of Laguna Niguel, California and Scott (Cortney) of Washington, DC. As well by her six grandchildren, Glenn Michael, Liam, Charlie, Merritt, Grant and Quinn. She is survived by her four sisters, Pearl Horton (Bob) of Cincinnati, Natalie Alexander (Archie) of Stow, Michalene Payok (Ronnie) of Sterling Heights, Michigan, and Debbie Safar (John) of Akron, her brother-in-law Robert Christian (Joanne) of Tallmadge, sister-in-law Anne Christian of Vista, California, and lots of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Mike and Mary Vukelich.
Family and friends may call Sunday 3 to 7 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron. Funeral Services will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market St. in Akron and will be followed by interment at Hillside Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Norris Cotton Cancer Center, One Medical Center Drive, Hinman Box 7070, Lebanon, NH 03756-0001 or Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
