Obituary of Gregory Barkoukis
Gregory "Jerry" Barkoukis
Born on February 1, 1927, Gregory Barkoukis died Thursday, March 22, 2012, after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Greg ("Jerry") had a lifelong love of airplanes and flying, having earned a pilot's license at the age of 16. As an avid pilot, he and his wife flew to many interesting places all across this country. He was introduced to the world of business at the age of 18 when his father became ill, died, and he took over the business and the family. He went on to own several businesses over his lifetime as a successful businessman.
Greg was a member and officer in the National TV Technicians Association and a member of the Akron Boards of Trade for 50 years. He was an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and served for 10 years on the Council, two of them as President.
Greg married the love of his life, Louise, in 1948 at the age of 21, living a wonderful life for 63 years, raising four children. He built his own home and was skilled in brick laying, carpentry, wiring, plumbing, electronics —just about anything.
Preceded in death by his brother, Chris Barkoukis; Greg leaves behind his wife, Louise; sons Chris (Patti) and Tom (JoJeth) Barkoukis; daughters Teri Barkoukis and Jo Barkoukis; sister, JoAnn (Stanley) Theodosion; brother Tom (Roberta) Barkis; grandchildren Cindy (Brad) Hina, Paul (Natalie) Barkoukis, Christine, David, Sarah, Nicole and Rachel Hentz and Chris and Shannon Frohme; four great grandchildren, Evan, Benjamin, Blake, Brittany; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him dearly. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 11:00 AM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 South Union Street, Akron, OH 44304. Rev. Fr. Jerry Hall officiating. Interment Mt. Peace Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday 5 to 8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. where a Trisayios Service will be held at 6:30 PM.
