Obituary of Patricia Ann Benko
Patricia Ann Benko, born November 12, 1937, died Thursday, January 26, 2012.
Patty was born in Akron to loving parents Amelia E. Benko and George J. Benko, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving and devoted brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary Jane (Hegedus) Benko of Akron; and her loving and devoted cousins, Antoinette (Dr. Michael) Flynn of Fort Myers, Fla.
Patty was a long-time resident of Apple Creek Developmental Center in Apple Creek, Ohio where she made many life-long friends with the staff and other residents, including her special friend, Arthur, who predeceased her. For the past six years, she was a resident of Echoing Ridge Residential Center in Canal Fulton where she was endeared to the staff, especially her caretaker, Michelle Semple.
She was a member of the St. Phillip and James Parish in Canal Fulton, faithfully attending services every Sunday. Although Patty experienced many mental and physical challenges in her life, she loved her family, enjoyed her special dolls and listening to music, and was always excited to accept an offer for a meal at her favorite restaurant, McDonald's. Patty spent the last three weeks of her life in the compassionate care of the Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service, where she was attended to by caring and dedicated Dr. Molly Scantling and many other staff. In addition, her many family members, including Jim, Mary Jane, Toni, Liz, Ellen, Susan, and Julie were her constant companions offering support and comfort.
