Obituary of Ruth A. Hendershot

-GREEN Ruth A. Hendershot, 96, passed away August 13, 2013 peacefully at home. Born on March 17, 1917, to the late Herman and Gertrude Schmitschulte, Ruth was a life long Akron resident. She was an active community member, serving as PTA president at Goodrich Middle School and Garfield High School, as well as at the state level. Ruth was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, the AARP, St. John Ladies' Guild and Girl Scouts. She was a kind and loving mother and was always exceptionally generous with her time, volunteering at nursing homes and with St. John's Bingo. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Robert and her sister Elizabeth Hendershot. She is survived by her children Michael (Linda), Susan Fortunato, and David (Karen); grandchildren Jeffery (Wendy) Hendershot, Tracy (Jeff) Ruegg, Michael (Julie) Hendershot, Richard (Amanda) Hendershot, Kelly (Doug) Watkins, Joseph Fortunato, Gina (Lou) Begue, and Lisa (Tony) Hunt; as well as 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8PM at the Anthony Funeral Home GREEN CHAPEL, 4178 Massillon Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Dave Durkee on Saturday, at 10AM, at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Rd. in Green. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Dr, Green, OH 44685. (PLEASE NOTE: Steese Rd. is closed.
