Obituary of James Lee Brooks
Jim left the party early on Sunday, June 9, 2013. Born to the late Anne & JB Brooks of Cuyahoga Falls, he was the first child born on 1/1/1948 in Summit County; his womb-mate Judith was the second.
Jim had a true zest for life during the good times and the bad. He lived life on his terms, living a life most men only dream of.
Throughout his life he loved the outdoors, inspired by the fact that he was an Eagle Scout. He loved stock car racing, water skiing, bowling, golfing, hiking, gardening and cooking.
Jim proudly served in the US Navy from 1968-1974, where he acquired a love for travel and for food. He always said that he wanted to eat his way around the world.
He was a Past Master of Amos H. Engelbeck lodge of F & A Masons in Ellet, and a charter member of Wayfarer Lodge of Portage Lakes, along with being a member of The Valley of Akron, and the Tadmor Shrine.
He was a student of the art of Bonsai and member of the Seishi Bonsai club of Canton and the Akron/Canton Bonsai Society. He was also a student of the art of Pysanky egg decorating in the tradition of his mother's ancestors.
Jim had his own opinions on life and was always ready to share them; if you wanted to hear them or not. He loved life, but he loved his family more. His greatest loves were his wife & Guardian Angel Sharon (Sullivan), along with his children & grandchildren. He was always prepared to "Go to the Wall" for his Family. Sher, a reminder, my boots need re-soled.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 22 years Sharon, children Rebecca (Michael) Lee, Jason Fleshman, James A. (Alyson) Brooks and Shannon (Gordon) Wetmore; granddaughters Allison Lee, Kylie Brooks, and Samantha Lee; his "big sister" Nancy Noe, and twin sister Judith (George) Papp along with 7 nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday 5 to 8 pm at the Anthony and Son Funeral Home of Green, 4178 Massillon Road, Uniontown OH 44685 (corner of Massillon and Steese Roads, entrance off Steese), where a Masonic Service will be held Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Interment will take place on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Shriners Hospital for Children. (Anthony, Green, anthonyfh.com, 330.899.9790)
