Obituary of Carol Jean Quinlan

Carol Quinlan (nee Baksa), 70, of Jackson Township passed away peacefully February 16, 2013 following a long struggle fighting breast cancer. She was born March 4, 1942 at Northside Hospital, Youngstown, Ohio, to the late Michael and Helen Baksa. Carol is survived by her husband Robert of 49 years, three daughters; Irene Quinlan of Canton, Ohio, Carrie (Michael) Lackey of Charlotte, NC, and Kim (Glenn) Pelc of Jackson Township, Ohio; two loving grandchildren, Kendra and Michael Pelc, a special friend and "adopted son" Phil Huff of Atlanta, GA, and a brother Raymond Baksa of Peoria, AZ. She is also survived by many friends made while living throughout the US as she accompanied her husband during his construction career. Devotion to family and friends was the focal point of Carol's life and her loving and giving nature will be missed by all who knew her. She most enjoyed baking and cooking for family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing, puzzles, watching tennis, and along with Robert, a life-long love of golf. But, in recent years the most enjoyment that she had were her grandchildren; whether it be cheering them on in sports, playing a game with them, helping them with their homework, sewing needed costumes or baking sweets for their events she was always present and ready to deliver whatever they needed. Carol also enjoyed giving of her time and talents to the parishes to which she belonged. She was an active volunteer at Queen of Heaven Church's Lenten fish fries and parish festival. While she resided in Los Alamos, New Mexico, she was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish and also served as the president of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. She also volunteered her time cooking for and serving the needy of Santa Fe. The family wishes to thank the Summit Oncology staff, her Hospice Team, and all the nurses and staff in the Cooper Cancer Infusion Center, the Palliative care team of Summa, and especially the 3 East staff at Akron City Hospital. Keeping with Carol's giving nature she has donated her body to science. Upon return of the cremains, a funeral will be held at Queen of Heaven Church, Uniontown, OH where she and Robert were active members. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 8th at 10:30 AM. The family will receive guests in the Church Gathering Space from 9:15 to 10:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your chosen charity. (Anthony, 330.899.9790, anthonyfh.com)
