Obituary of Helen Virginia Houze

Helen Virginia Houze Helen Virginia Houze (nee Rodgers), 92, of Barberton, passed from this life on February 24, 2012. She was born on January 12, 1920 in Richmond, Virginia to the late Reynolds and Helen Rodgers. Helen grew up in Erie, PA and graduated from Academy H.S. She moved to Tallmadge, OH in 1947 and lived there until she moved to Barberton in 1988. She was a police dispatcher for the City of Tallmadge in the 1950's and worked for many years at the Carpenter's District Council in Akron. She was proud that they continued to invite her to their annual picnic even after she retired. Helen loved her family, her pets, especially her fox terrier Dolly, and playing cards. She enjoyed her unofficial title of the "Euchre Boss" bestowed on her by her card-playing friends. She never met a stranger and had a great sense of humor and clever wit. She could also be described as feisty, spunky, and loving. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Carl, her special friend, Ivan Garlock, and six of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons Rex (Joyce) Houze of Allen, TX; Jon (Donna) Houze of Tallmadge, OH and Palmetto, FL; daughter Kathy (Jody) Victor of North Canton, OH; brother Pat (Peggy) Rodgers of Erie, PA; sister-in-law Arlene Rodgers of Erie, PA; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Helen had a special place in her heart for her niece, Penny Jo Hauserman, and her "other boys," Gary and Kenny Anderson. Special thanks to Brenda Stouffer, a special friend, and Nancy Demastus from Home Helpers for their tender and compassionate care. Cremation has taken place. A remembrance gathering will take place on Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Anthony and Son Funeral Home Green Chapel 4178 Massillon Rd.
