Obituary of Ross N. Contos
Ross Contos, 75, passed away unexpectedly on March 23, 2013.
Born in Akron on December 21, 1937 to the late Tasos & Mary Contos, Ross had been a lifetime area resident. He was a 1955 graduate of East High School and went on to serve his country in the US Army. He worked for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for over 42 years, retiring in 1997. Ross was a lifetime member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Akron and was a longtime member of their choir. He also enjoyed helping with the Thursday Gyro Luncheon & Good Samaritans at the church. He enjoyed his grandchildren's sporting events and had previously coached youth baseball for over 14 years. Ross was an avid woodworker and fisherman.
In addition to his parents, Ross was preceded in death by his brother-in-law William Williams. he is survived by his dear wife of nearly 50 years Ann (Pappas); daughters Zoe Lapidakis & Nikki Contos, both of Akron; sons Stephen (Michele) Contos of Norton & Christopher (Michelle) Contos of Akron; grandchildren Malena, Anthony, Anastasia, Hunter, Nicholas, Tanner, and Emily; brothers George (Nora) & Gus (Barbara) Contos; sister Helen Williams, as well as many nieces, nephews, & friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron, where a trisagion will take place at 6:00 pm. A funeral service will take place on Friday at 11:00 am at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church 129 S. Union St. Akron, OH 44304, Where Ross will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Fr. Jerry Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Peace Cemetery in Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ross' memory may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
