Obituary of William Robert Lutz

-SPRINGFIELD TWP. William Robert Lutz, 83, passed away on March 18 surrounded by his family who cherished him. Bill was born on January 11, 1930 to the late Emil and Elsie Lutz. With his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia Lutz (Miller), Bill had five children, Michelle (Tom) Baker, Pam (Terry) Crawford, Patty (Gordon) Bennett, Paula (Mark) Bezbatchenko, Bill (Lisa) Lutz, and fourteen grandchildren who will miss him dearly. He is also survived by his sisters Lucille Styles and Betty McVan. Drafted during the Korean War in 1950, Bill proudly served his country in Salsburg, Austria where he was trained as a communications specialist at the European Command Signal School. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, class of 1947, as well as the University of Akron, class of 1959 where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Industrial Management. He spent 38 proud years working at the Babcock & Wilcox Company in Barberton, where some of his fondest memories were of his Tuesday night golf league. Dad loved to golf with everyone and he always left the course with more balls than he started with, as his favorite club was his ball retriever. He also enjoyed his monthly poker games with his old high school buddies. Bill always had a love for music. He was honored with the opportunity to sing one of his favorite songs, Panis Angelicus, for Bishop Farrelly on the 25th anniversary of St. Mary's Church. Dad was a craftsman and he loved building things in his basement workshop. He appreciated any opportunity to help one of us with a repair and was most happy while making gifts for his grandchildren. He had a nickname for everyone, keepsakes that we will never forget. He had a cheerful and teasing personality, joking with his family even in his last moments. You fought hard, Dad, to be able to spend more time with us. You're strength and love was contagious. While you were with us you taught us the meaning of devotion to your spouse and family. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 5-8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home GREEN CHAPEL, 4178 Massillon Rd. (at the corner of Steese Rd. & Rte. 241) in Green. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. David Halaiko and Fr. Ken Styles on Thursday, 10:00 am, at the Nativity of our Lord Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Rd. in Springfield Twp. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Summa Cooper Cancer Center.
