Obituary of Nick Zaklan
Nick Zaklan, 87, passed away December 4, 2016 at the Hospice Care Center.
Nick was born in Akron on November 23, 1929 to Ponto & Valerie Zaklan. He graduated from East High School in 1948 where he was a big weight lifter & wrestler, and received an Associates Degree in Business from Hammel College. He worked for the Ohio Workers Compensation Bureau as an auditor for 10 years; prior to that he was a credit manager at Automated Packaging for 10 years and also worked at a credit manager for Polsky's for 25 years. Nick was in the Navy for two years as a yeoman in the Adminstration Department & Fire Control. He served with the Atlantic Fleet on a heavy cruiser in Norfolk, VA and traveled the Atlantic to Cuba, England and France with a fleet of 15 ships. He had a passion for playing the mandolin, gardening, reading, watching movies, listening to Billy Graham sermons, polka dancing with his wife, and bluegrass music. Nick was a member of the Chapel in Akron, and attended the ABF's.
Nick was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Jean; sisters Marie Kalinski, Irene Wondra, Millie Bachelor; and brother Danny. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl Zaklan; son Scott (Deanna); and grandson Kyle Zaklan.
The family will receive friends TOMORROW, Wednesday, December 7, from 5-7PM at the Anthony Funeral Home, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron, where a funeral service will be held at 7 PM. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman will take place at 11:30 on Thursday, with a procession forming at the funeral home, leaving promptly at 10:30AM.
