Obituary of Sally Anne Riede
Sally Anne Riede, 86, joined her husband David and daughter Mary in Heaven on December 3, 2016.
Born in Rock Island, IL on May 10, 1930 to the late Bernard & Anne Lachner, Sally had been a Cuyahoga Falls resident for over 60 years. Sally graduated with a BA from the University of Iowa as a registered Medical Technologist. Sally was a selfless volunteer and served on the boards and committees of many organizations including the Summit, Regional, and Diocesan Councils of the National Council of Catholic Women and was the National Woman of the Year in 1985, Ronald McDonald House & Charities, past-president of the Delta, Delta, Delta Alumnae, past-president of the Loyola of the Lakes Jesuit Retreat House, Catholic Social Services of Summit County, Community Support Services, Children's Concert Society, Leadership Akron, United Way of Summit County, Our Lady of the Elms, Immaculate Heart of Mary Education Commission, Arc Women's Board, was vice-president of the University of Akron Women's Committee, First Friday Club of Greater Akron, the Cleveland Diocesan Liturgy Commission, past-president of the Regional Board of Catholic Education, and the past-president of the Cleveland Diocesan Board of Catholic Education. She was a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Cuyahoga Falls, where she played the organ for many years. She was the 2012 recipient of the Bishop Anthony Pilla Leadership Award.
Preceded in death by her husband David, daughter Mary, and brother Bernard Lachner, Sally is survived by her children Anne Riede, Dave (Debby) Riede, Jr., and Margaret Riede; grandchildren David (Lindsey) & Matt (Kirsten) Riede and Jamie & Melissa Pruitt; brother James (Donna) Lachner; her faithful companion Tinker D, as well as nieces, nephews and great-nieces & nephews and other extended family members.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, & staffs of Western Reserve Hospital and Altercare of the Western Reserve for the compassionate care given to Sally during her time there.
Friends are invited to a Celebration of Sally's Life on Saturday, December 10, from 6 to 7:30 pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 1905 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following at 7:30 pm. A private inurnment will take place at All Saints Cemetery in Northfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of the Elms, the Fr.
