Obituary of Joseph Jacob Petrasek

Joseph J. Petrasek "There are no strangers, only friends we have yet to meet."-Papa Joe With love and Christian faith we said goodbye to our cherished husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle and friend Joseph Jacob Petrasek on October 24, 2016. Joe was born on July 31, 1928, in Akron, Ohio to Vincent and Mary Petrasek. The fourth of five brothers, he kept Firestone Park hopping. Joe loved living life, and did it extremely well. His stories will continue to make us laugh forever. For those of you that did not know Joe well, he would like for you to know he had a hole-in-one at the age of 83. Not only one hole-in-one, but managed to somehow pull off two over the course of his lifetime. Joe was involved with many activities, and was always up for a party. He was generous, kind and loving. We will cherish him in our hearts forever. Joe was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and it was there that he was baptized, took his First Holy Communion, had Confirmation and was married. He retired with 30 years of service from Goodyear Aerospace, and then went back to work as a Bailiff in Domestic Relations under the Honorable Judge Richard Zurz. It was there that he was thrown out of court by his boss for snoring during a court session. At the age of 16, Joe enlisted in the military, because his mom refused to buy him a car. He served our country well during the Korean Conflict, and left us with many stories about SOS and making money selling cigarettes. He was past president of the First Catholic Slovak Union, Jednota Club, and a member of the Airport VFW. He was also a Third Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Charles Reymann Council and a Fourth Degree member of Msgr. O'Keefe Assembly. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John, Frank, and Steven. Preceding also were his brother and sister in law, Tom and Mary Ford. Joe is survived by his wife of 67 years, Cecelia, son and daughter in law, Mike(Noreen), and their children, Megan(Steve)Defranceso-Coby, Siena and Blake, Lauren(Jeff)Moses-Grace and Giuliana, Michael(Erika)Petrasek and Leah(Matt)Sudo. Son and daughter in law, Greg(Roberta), their daughter, Bianchi(Andrew)Victory-William, Georgia and Scarlet Grey. He leaves behind his beloved kid brother, Tony(Connie)Petrasek and their family, adored nieces, Pat Beach and Delores Courie. His devoted nephews, Larry Petrasek and Tom Petrosek also survive. His family was his world, and he was the best at being a great provider and friend. Calling hours for family and friends will be Friday, October 28, 2016 from 5 to 8p.m. at the Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home, 1990 S. Main st., Akron, Ohio 44301.
