Obituary of Mary Gaston

Mary Lee Gaston, 87, went home to be with the Lord July 25, 2016. Mary was born on September 10, 1928 to Mike & Dora Woods in Mendenhall, Mississippi. She spent many years in Chicago where she worked for Delta Airlines, until 1979 when her family moved to Akron. Mary loved to talk on the phone, crochet, fish, and play cards, her favorite game being Tunk. Mary also was gifted at making hats and growing her own vegetable garden. She was a great cook and her pound cake was loved by many. A generous woman, Mary touched many people, keeping her door open to anyone and everyone who needed her and through her work babysitting she made lifelong friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rufus in 1987; daughter Vivian Lockhart; and she was the last of her seven siblings to be called home. She is survived by her children Jerry Lockhart, Lorrine Fitzpartick, Vanessa Thomas and Ahmad Akhdar; best friends Tiller Blair; 14 grandchildren, and a whole host of great-grandchildren. Funeral service will take place Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron, Ohio 44301 where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to service. Interment will immediately follow at Glendale Cemetery.
