Obituary of Ralph E. Morrison
Ralph Emerson Morrison, Sr., 101, an Akron resident for 64 years, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Canton Christian Home.
He was born February 17, 1915 in Lobelia, WV, a son of the late Foley Edison and Bessie Lee Pritt Morrison.
On October 25, 1944, at Parsons, WV, he commenced a marriage of 62 years with his beloved wife, Delilah Loraine Brock, who preceded him in death in 2007.
Also preceding him in death were four sisters, Elsie White, Elaine Morrison, Gael O’Hare, Nora Weese; and two brothers, McLake "Mac" Morrison and Alton Morrison.
Surviving are a sister, Norma Bodkin of Elkins, WV, son, Ralph E. Morrison, Jr. of Akron, sister-in-law, Dora Barnes (youngest sister of Delilah) of Medina, and numerous nieces and nephews and their succeeding generations.
Mr. Morrison was a graduate of Elkins High School and Davis & Elkins College. He enlisted in the Army during World War II, where he served in the South Pacific, reaching the rank of Technical Sargent.
After moving to Akron in 1951, he worked as an engineer for Goodyear Aircraft, while pursuing graduate studies in accounting at Kent State University. In 1955, Ralph began 24 years of employment as an accountant for the U. S. Government, retiring at age 62.
Ralph was a generous and devoted husband, loving father, proud uncle, and dedicated member, teacher, and elder at South Akron Church of Christ (now New Life Christian). Ralph gave of his time and talents freely in service of Jesus - his Master, Lord and Savior.
He loved music, singing, and playing the guitar and harmonica.
His hobbies included carpentry, having built many of the bookshelves and cabinets in his well-maintained residence. He received accolades for his beautiful lawn, garden and flowerbeds.
In their active retirement Ralph and Delilah played golf, both together, and in separate leagues. It was during this time he achieved a Hole in One. They enjoyed traveling in the U.S. as well as trips to Canada, Hawaii, and Europe. They valued their many get-togethers with friends from the ‘Kappas’ and ABWA organizations.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 South Main Street, Akron, OH 44301. The funeral will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, at the same location, with visiting one hour prior to the service, Pastor Terry Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Northlawn Memorial Gardens, 4724 State Rd, Peninsula, OH 44264.
