Obituary of Steve John Saviolis

Steve Saviolis, 88, passed away on March 1, 2016. Born in Campbell, Ohio, he resided most of his life in the North Hill and Tallmadge areas. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene, and his lovely wife Mary. Steve retired as a pharmaceutical representative with over 30 years in Northeast Ohio. He graduated from Hammel Business College, as an accountant. He fought in World War II, serving in the Ohio National Guard, U.S. Merchant Marine, and in the U.S. Army, in Rome, Italy, where he was a radio announcer. He produced the first "Greek hour" radio program in the Akron area. He was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and served on the board in the 1950's. A mason for over 60 years, a member of Mt. Akra Lodge #680, a 32 degree Mason, and a member of the Tadmor Temple. He was past president of the Pancretan Association of Akron and served on the national level as District Governor. He was a member of AHEPA and AMHAS. He also enjoyed volunteering his time as a Tax Aid with AARP for 15 years. He leaves his loving children John, Rene (Dr. Peter)Stamatis and his grandson, his "buddy", Nicholas. Steve's children would like to especially thank the longtime friends and neighbors who became like family and took the time to call, share a meal or just listen to dad's wonderful storytelling through the years. You will always hold a special place in our hearts. The family will receive friends on Sunday, 2-4 pm, at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron, where a Trisagion will take place at 3pm. A funeral service will be held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church 129 S. Union St. in Akron, on Monday, 11am, where Steve will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Rev. Fr. Jerry Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Peace Cemetery in Akron. Contributions in Steve's memory may be made to the Pancretan Association of Akron, Dr. A. Retikas, Scholarship Fund, or to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Akron.
