Obituary of Ann Shoup

Ann Neher Shoup, 91, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Pebble Creek. Ann was born August 8, 1924 to George and Marjorie (Harrity) Neher in Scranton, PA. She graduated from Hyde Park High School in Chicago, IL. In 1943 she married Ellsworth Shoup and shortly after they moved to Akron, where she had been an area resident for most of her life. Ellsworth and Ann were married for 58 years. Ann was a 59 year breast cancer survivor. Ann and Ellsworth were foster parents for the Catholic Service League from 1963 to 1973. Together they fostered 43 children. Ann was employed by Akron Public Schools as a teacher's aide for 28 years alongside educator, Bill Powell. She retired in 2004. Ann was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. Ann was preceded in death by her husband Ellsworth, and her siblings Joanne Neher Williams and Peter Neher. She is survived by her children Ellannye (Stephen Harding) Shoup, Olive (Dale) McKissick, Jo (Gerard Colant) Shoup and John (Kim) Shoup; grandchildren Noelle and Marco Colant and Jack Shoup; sisters-in-law Beth Williams, Dinah Shoup, and Diane Neher. Ann had the opportunity to love and admire her many nieces and nephews, and each one was her favorite. She had many friends and extended "family" that she would "storm heaven" with prayers, when she wasn't reading, writing to her pen pals, or doing her water exercises. The family will receive family and friends Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 26, 2016, 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1580 Brown St. Akron OH 44301.
